What would Leeroy Jenkins do?

Suliman is running March's Bearblog carnival on your favourite meme. Such good fun, other than the agonies of choosing just one.

Out of all the memes I considered I'm going to have to go with Leeroy Jenkins because his spirit was invoked in a game last week. Still relevant.

The 2005 video is available in all its chaotic glory. The legend being that a meticulously planned World of Warcraft raid is about to go down - on Leeroy Jenkins's behalf. Except Leeroy Jenkins's player missed the plan because he was afk getting chicken and on returning to the keyboard just runs straight in with the battle cry "Leeroy Jenkins!"

As Gimli says. Certainty of death. Small chance of success. What are we waiting for.

The drama of this. The rest of the party is just stunned. But then the loyalty with which everyone just follows rather than leaving Jenkins to die alone. Friends don't let dumbasses friends die alone and I think that's beautiful.

It keeps being memeable, keeps giving. "Goddammit, Leeroy," is just as good. I say "Goddammit, Leeroy" in that accent at least half the times I say goddammit. The panicked, "We do have a soul stone up, don't we?" Equally importantly, the follow up: "At least I have chicken." Truly the antithesis of "Another such victory and I am undone." Things have turned out catastrophically but you personally got something good out of it.

The fun doesn't stop there. Was it staged? Was it real and then retroactively claimed to be staged? Who knows. Who cares. It's an epic in under three minutes.
